Good News!

Catherine and I were able to spend some time with Isabella this evening along side her little bed. We arrived in the NICU around 6:30, and she was off the ventilator! As we were on our way in to see her, the nurse told us, "that is her crying." She has a perfectly good set of lungs, and that was about the best sound I had heard in a few days (that and the sound of Catherine snoring softly after she was given some pain meds during her labor early Tues morning.)

Bella was still kind of fussy due to a feeding tube in her mouth, and Cat and I were able to try calming her for the first time. It worked for a short time, but eventually the nurse came over and just stuck a pacifier in her mouth, and she was much better after that. We took turns holding her pacifier and talking to her. We think she must be hungry, and we are looking forward to when we can feed her. This may happen tomorrow if she does well overnight.

After about 90min, the nurse took her feeding tube out of her mouth and put it down through her nose and changed her diaper and some IV dressings. She threw a fit for a short time until she was swaddled and calmed down by the nurses. She held my finger through this traumatic ordeal, and that felt special.

We really have not had the chance to spend much time with her, so tonight was a good night.

We are still waiting for the verdict on whether or not she has any infections. They will still probably need to keep her a few more days to make sure she can eat and there are no other complications.

We know your prayers are working, so please keep up the good work!

Love Todd & Cat
